The Ramparts Built in the early twelfth century, the imposing ramparts give an idea of the historical importance of the city. 19 km longth and include 20 gates and 202 towers, these walls are built of mud, depending on lighting, wonderful reflections glowing. Nine majestic doors allow access ... to the medina. Some of them, such as Bab Agnaou and Bab el Debbagh have retained their original architecture and worth a visit. A walk around the ramparts is best either first thing in the morning or the evening when the sun is low and the pisé walls take on a lovely ochre colour.
